A Program Built for Toddlers

The toddler years are a period of remarkable growth. Children at this stage are driven by an intense desire to do things for themselves, to communicate, and to understand the world around them. Our Montessori toddler community is designed to honor and support this extraordinary developmental window.

Within a carefully prepared environment that offers freedom within clear and consistent limits, toddlers engage in purposeful activities that build concentration, coordination, and self-confidence. Practical life exercises โ€” pouring, buttoning, food preparation โ€” give children the tools they need to master everyday tasks and develop a strong sense of self.

Prepared Environment

Child-sized furniture, open shelving with carefully curated materials, and defined work areas create an orderly, beautiful space where toddlers can move freely and choose their own activities with confidence.

Language Explosion

Toddlers are in a sensitive period for language acquisition. Our guides enrich the environment with vocabulary-rich conversations, stories, songs, and nomenclature materials that support the rapid expansion of verbal expression.

Independence & Confidence

From dressing themselves to serving their own snack, toddlers at AMSA practice real skills that build genuine self-esteem. We follow the Montessori principle of "Help me to do it myself" in every aspect of the day.

Social Skills

Through grace and courtesy lessons, collaborative activities, and gentle conflict resolution, toddlers learn to share, take turns, and express their needs respectfully โ€” building the foundation for meaningful social relationships.

Motor Development

Gross and fine motor activities โ€” climbing, threading, cutting, painting โ€” are woven throughout the day. Our outdoor environment provides additional opportunities for large-body movement, balance, and coordination.

Our Approach to Toilet Learning

At AMSA, we view toilet learning as a natural developmental milestone rather than a training exercise. Our guides observe each child's readiness cues and work in close partnership with families to support this transition with patience, consistency, and respect. The toddler bathroom is designed to promote independence, with child-sized toilets and accessible handwashing stations that allow children to take an active role in their own care.
